14-Kosi Parikrama begins in Ayodhya; 10 lakh take dip in Saryu

Ayodhya: The 14-Kosi Parikrama began in Ayodhya on Sunday night amid tight security. About 10 lakh devotees started the Parikrama after taking the dip in the Saryu river. They will cover the round of 45 km periphery of the temple town. The parikrama will conclude on Tuesday afternoon.

  A large contingent of security forces, including 10 companies of paramilitary forces, have been deployed in the temple town. More than two dozen administrative officers have been assigned magisterial duties.


Faizabad SSP KB Singh said heavy security has been deployed at key points of Ayodhya and added that forces will keep a round the clock till the completion of the parikrama. 


About 10 lakh people tonight took a dip in the Saryu river amid tight security, marking the start of 14-Kosi Parikrama in which devotees undertake 45-km round of the periphery of Ayodhya. The pilgrimage, which started at around 8 PM today will conclude on Tuesday. The local administration is on its toes to conduct the Parikrama peacefully and a large contingent of security forces has been deployed in Ayodhya, including 10 companies of para military forces. The administration had expected more than ten lakh devotees to take part in this religious gathering. More than two dozen administrative officers from different government departments have been deputed in Ayodhya, and are serving as magisterial duties at Parikrama.
